What is the significance of C.76?

March 2nd, 2008 · No Comments · Hands off Herts

C76 is "highway authority speak" for the road that runs along the "left bank" of the Grand Union Canal from Hemel Hempstead’s magic roundabout to Abbots Langley past the former Ovaltine factory.  Between Nash Mills and Kings Langley Railway Station it runs through the westernmost edge of the St Albans parliamentary constituency, calling itself Lower [...]

Appearing before the “Railfreight” Inquiry

November 20th, 2007 · No Comments · Hands off Herts

Today was the opportunity for general objectors to make their case against the proposed freight depot on the former Radlett aerodrome at Park Street.

Some excellent submissions were made by local interest and residents’ groups and I had my two pennyworth as well.

You can read what I had to say below.

I am just so angry that [...]

We were opposed by Harpenden-based architect and planner Roger Shrimplin and local planning consultant [...]

Gordon Brown’s ignorant and cynical response to Hands Off Herts e-petition

September 14th, 2007 · No Comments · Hands off Herts

I am outraged by the ignorant and cynical way in which the Government has purported to respond to the Hands Off Herts e-petition on the Downing Street website.

What we have received is an anonymous stream of Downing Street drivel.  In Gordon Brown’s Brave
New World, it seems that the people of St Albans are viewed as [...]

The first crack in the Government’s crazy edifice – or is it the crazy Government’s edifice??

June 13th, 2007 · No Comments · Hands off Herts

I have heard on the grapevine that the Government is to confirm that it is delaying issuing the final version of the East of England plan with its threat to build over the Green Belt round St Albans.

Apparently they have now received legal advice which endorses all of our attacks on the proposals – in [...]

What is it about the Herts County Show?

May 26th, 2007 · No Comments · Hands off Herts

What is it about the Herts County Show that it always seems to rain?  I tell my daughter that if she ever gets married, she must never choose the weekend of the show.  Actually today was just about OK in terms of weather – a few showers which could be avoided by nimble footwork into [...]

Write to Ruth Kelly

March 26th, 2007 · No Comments · Hands off Herts

Many of you may have seen that the Government’s plans to open up our Green Belt to housing developers may net a single developer £3 billion!  Talk about selling Hertfordshire for 30 pieces of silver.

Even if you weren’t in time for the official consultation responses, as well as signing the e-petition I believe it is [...]
