I have just come back from a three-party panel discussion at St Albans Sixth Form College on London Road. My fellow participants were Roma Mills and Conservative councillor Julian Daly.
The room was packed with students and teachers and the debate was lively and pointed. Starting with “why should we vote”, the discussion then moved to tuition fees, variable top up fees, and the horrible bureaucracy of the Student Loans Company.
Questions followed on binge drinking (I assure them I have given up for Lent), building on the Green Belt, how do we best reduce carbon emissions, and why do buses and trains cost so much.
Finally there was a very interesting exchange on how to encourage cycling in the city.
It was a very enjoyable session, and much better than the alternative of canvassing with the rain lashing at the windows!
