Proto-martyr/Verulamium etc... I agree with the letter - I always recall my first visit to St Albans by train...and seeing the Abbey from the distance... It has always remained for me a magical experience and should be fought for at all costs. It's akin to the view of Ely cathedral rising out of the Fens...would they vandalise that view in the same way? The bureaucratic policy-driven tick-box mentality which allows Government, Highways and other agencies to destroy our visual amenity beggars belief.
