Sandy 4 St Albans

I have just been to the excellent exhibition of 1930s London Transport posters at St Albans City Museum.  Go and see it.  There are some fascinating images by some world-famous artists.  Many of the images relate to St Albans in a kinder, gentler era, including a dramatic internal view of St Albans Abbey. 

The iconic 1930s architecture of the Underground was the work of
Hertfordshire architect Charles Holden.  As a family we are lucky
enough to live in a house that he extended much earlier in his career. 
Subsequently of course I worked for Transport for London, successor to
Frank Pick's London Transport.

The City Museum in Hatfield Road is a much overlooked asset to this
city – it was presented to the city by Earl Spencer, Princess Diana's
ancestor and leader of the Liberals in the House of Lords, at the same
time as he presented the local Liberals with the City Liberal Club next
door.
